- It's probably a good idea to be slightly wary if the
buyer is reluctant to meet you at their home. Although there

- No documents? No thanks. Whatever the excuse, don't buy
the car if they can't produce the documents there and then.
- Have a good look to make sure that the registration documents
haven't been tampered with in any way, and that the numbers
on the car like the chassis number and the vehicle registration

covered if you subsequently find that the car is stolen

While paranoia is never a good thing, being a little
wary never goes amiss. Remember, if you do buy a car that
turns out to be stolen, then the police have the power to
seize it and return it to its rightful owner - even if you've
got a receipt for it. Your car insurance won't usually cover
circumstances such as these, so you're looking at a situation
where you've got no car - or any money to replace it with.
