British drivers the most tolerant in Europe

Research has been carried out for the Drivers in Europe survey, which studied the driving behaviour of 2,700 drivers across 12 countries. The study, commissioned by Eutotest, a group of motoring companies, found that British drivers are the most tolerant when in their car, unless faced with a particularly dangerous situation.

British drivers also revealed that they have the most tolerant attitude towards ditherers and crawlers, according to the survey.

Of the survey, the AA Motoring Trust commented that British drivers see dangerous driving as a personal attack on them. This is an occasion when tolerance is at its lowest. 98% of Italian drivers rated their own driving skills to be good or very good but showed that they were consistently intolerant. One in ten French drivers rate their ability as less than good, compared with more than one in 30 British drivers.

The British level of tolerance is 30% better than the European average, even when faced with a situation such as another driver not allowing them into a lane. It transpired that UK drivers are 50% less likely to say they are annoyed by this behaviour than drivers in Germany, Slovenia, Holland and Austria.
