Car insurance firm reveal texting dangers
Recent research has revealed that texting while crossing the road has led to an enormous increase in the number of young people hurt and killed in road accidents.
RAC Car Insurance conducted the investigation and discovered that one third of 11-16 year olds don't pay proper attention and look where they're going because they're too busy sending or reading text messages.
The motor insurance firm's executive director issued a warning after the survey results were published and said, "We have been concerned for some time that the increased use of mobile phones and personal stereos amongst teen pedestrians was adding to road safety hazards.
"Listening to Busted and phone videoing your friends whilst crossing the road is not conducive to road safety."
But it is not only pedestrians that can be affected by the dangers of excessive texting, and motorists often suffer too. Drivers, especially those under the age of 25, often risk accidents by sending texts whilst driving.
A 24-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "I often text when I'm on the motorway, but I make sure I use predictive and I always pull into the slow lane to do it."
Such ridiculous behaviour risks not only one's own life, but also the lives of pedestrians and other road users. Anyone that causes an accident because of texting is likely to face criminal charges and also puts their cheap young driver car insurance premium in jeopardy.
