Young drivers all around the country are being warned to watch their speed after it was revealed that Brits who have been banned from the road spend a massive £800 million every year on getting around.
Churchill Car Insurance made the discovery following a new study involving some of the 300,000 motorists who are banned from the road every year.
The average banned driver will be off the road for 39 weeks and will fork out £2653 finding alternative methods of transport. The figure will include nearly £950 on taxis, £900 on tubes and trains, £551 on buses and over £250 spent on paying friends and family for lifts.
In addition to the money spent on getting around, unused tax and motor insurance results in another £157 down the pan, meaning that the total for the average driver is a whopping £2810.
Mike Page from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, commented on the findings, saying, "Getting banned from the road can obviously turn out to be massively expensive, so it really does pay to watch your speed and keep clear of the booze if you're planning to drive."
