Drivers paying unnecessary car parking fines

Recent studies have shown that thousands of motorists pay fines that they believe to be unfair because councils fail tomake it clear that drivers have a right to appeal to an independent body such as a solicitor. In 2004, 8 million parking fines were issued in England and Wales, however only 60,000 people appealed for their fine to be quashed. Of those who madea complaint about their car parking fine 62% were successful.

Many people do not realise that they have the right to have their case examined by an independent lawyer and pay the fine they feel they were unjustly given. It has been shown that the process is extremely fair and impartial and each case is examined personally. Councils do not inform drivers that they have this right unless they are contacted about the fine.

The appeal process is as follows:

  1. Appeal to the council within 14 days of receiving the ticket
  2. The council will send a 'Notice to Owner' to you giving you 28 more days to get representation
  3. If the council refuses to waive your charge you will receive a 'Notice of Rejection of Representations'. You will then have 28 days to appeal to the independent adjudicator

There are other ways to save money in motoring. For one you can shop around and get yourself cheap young driver car insurance. Car insurance rates needn’t be costly when you're young; you just need to know where to look. And don't forget - look out for those traffic wardens!
