Football star fined following court appearance

Premiership football star Craig Bellamy has received a £50 fine after pleading guilty to failing to produce a motor insurance certificate.

The 27-year-old Liverpool and Wales striker was stopped by police in November 2005 and charged with having no car insurance. He was given 14 days to produce an insurance document but failed to do so.

Appearing at Cardiff Magistrates' Court, the solicitor of the £6 million-rated player finally produced a motor insurance certificate covering the date in question and a charge of driving without car insurance was subsequently dropped.

In addition to a £50 fine, the £50,000 a week striker was also ordered to pay costs of £40.
