Poll shows K.I.T.T. the favourite with drivers young and old

A recent survey by young driver car insurance provider Lloyds TSB proved that K.I.T.T., the star of cult 80's TV show Knight Rider, is better loved by Britain's drivers than any other fictional motor.

The talking black Pontiac Trans Am, which never failed to out-act it's co-star David Hasselhoff, beat off anything the last two decades of television could produce - despite many of today's drivers being too young to have seen the cult series.

And a quick glance at the runners up - which included Herbie, Back to the Future's Delorean and the Batmobile - shows that films and TV over the past 20 years have failed to come up with any memorable 'personality' cars, despite a glut of motor movies.

"It's easy to understand why K.I.T.T. had such an effect on the nation," said Phil Loney, MD at Lloyds.

"The cars of 2006 still don't have personalities or protect their owners from all forms of danger," he observed.

Mike Page, spokesperson for the young driver car insurance experts at Hoot, said "Imagine trying to find motor insurance for K.I.T.T.

"Fire and theft aren't much of a danger for a sentient, indestructible auto - but with Hasselhoff at the wheel the third party car insurance claims would be horrific."
