Medication poses risk to motorists

Young drivers all across the country are being warned to be aware that over-the-counter medicines could prove a threat to their right to a cheap car insurance deal.

The Institute of Advanced Motoring have advised drivers to check the label of their medication before they get behind the wheel. Some drugs that cause drowsiness are likely to affect concentration and so increase the risk of being involved in an accident.

With the summer firmly upon us, hayfever sufferers everywhere are popping the pills in an attempt to stop the sneezing and the itchy eyes. It is these people especially that the Institute of Advanced Motoring are concerned about and so released a statement saying, "It is very important to check that any medication you take for hayfever is suitable to use if you're going to drive.

"Many hayfever remedies cause drowsiness so, as with any medication, check the label, or ask when buying it."

The importance of being aware when driving during the summer was highlighted by a Hoot Car Insurance spokesman.

"You never know when another driver could be seized by a fit of sneezing and lose control of their car, so it does pay to take extra care."
