Car insurance dodgers targeted by police

Police in the Birmingham suburb of Handsworth have finally had enough of drivers with no car insurance and are planning an offensive to crack down on the perpetrators.

Codenamed Operation Warrior, the clampdown is calling for members of the public to notify the police of any vehicles that they know have no proper motor insurance cover and so are being driven illegally.

PC Andrew Webber from West Midlands Police said, "Many unlicensed vehicles also have no insurance, no MOT certificates and are often committing other road safety offences.

"Their removal from the streets will have a direct impact on road safety and will improve the quality of life for people living in the area.

In addition to asking people to inform them of offenders, the police are also stepping up random roadside checks in an attempt to catch out those using their cars without cover.

Mike Page from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, commented, "It's said that insurance premiums would be £30 cheaper if the number of uninsured drivers was cut. So it really is in your best interests to let the police know of anyone who's not covered."
