No more cheap car insurance quotes for sheepish Porsche crasher

A young driver who skewered his prized Porsche on a brick post can expect another nasty surprise - when he requests a new car insurance quote.

The accident happened on a wet Thursday night, just outside Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire.

His Porsche Carrera 4 lost traction as it approached a motorway crossing, careered off the road and mounted the post, scattering debris onto the hard shoulder below.

Ironically enough, the post had been installed by Hertfordshire Highways as a 'traffic calming' measure.

The driver escaped with hurt pride and damage to his wallet.

"He was pretty embarrassed," said one of the fire crew who attended the scene.

Highway maintenance repaired damage to the post within days - but, for the young driver of the Porsche, the incident will live on in terms of inflated motor insurance premiums for years to come.
