Premiership stars splash thousands
on car insurance
Aston Martins, Lamborghini Murcielagos, BMW X5s, Bentley GTs, the list goes on.
Cheap car insurance has obviously not been foremost in the minds of England's footballing heroes this season as they roar to training in their extortionately expensive flash motors.
The likes of you and I wouldn't have a chance of affording even the motor insurance premium for such a deliciously snazzy getaround, never mind the car itself. But such worries are far from the minds of our Premiership stars, some of whom can buy one of these blinged-up beasts with just a week's wages.
Research by lads' mag Nuts has revealed just how much today's footballers splash out on their cars, with table-topping Chelsea coming out on top with a huge typical spend of £104,835 per car. They've also discovered that last year's league champions are the speediest team in the Premiership, with the average top speed of their player's motors hitting almost 200mph.
Car insurance, especially when you consider that a lot of these superstars are in their twenties, is going to cost them an absolute packet, and that's even before their past misdemeanours are taken into account.
And we're not talking weeing in plant pots, having illicit liasons with less-than-discreet models or doing unnatural things with mobile phones here, oh no.
Driving an über-fast car certainly has its drawbacks, as Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has probably discovered. The goatie-bearded centre-back has allegedly been banned from driving four times, including once for drink-driving. I wouldn't even like to guess at the price of the motor insurance for his funky Bentley GT.
Mike Page, spokesman for Hoot Car Insurance Services, experts in cheap young driver car insurance, said, "We offer great deals to any young motorist, irrespective of whether they're driving a Lamborghini or a Lada. The price of the premium might vary a touch, but you'll get a great deal nonetheless."
