Schoolchildren taught how to catch
speeding motorists

Get flashed for speeding in Wales at the moment and you could face not only the loss of your cheap car insurance, but also a rollicking from a bunch of schoolkids.

Pupils from Radnor Valley County Primary School have been getting lessons from the police in how to use laser speed cameras, and have actually been putting their new found skills to the test on nearby roads.

Explaining the reasoning behind the seemingly bizarre idea, PC Lyn Heard told the Powys County Times, "I would expect a motorist, who would have to answer to a group of school children, to modify their behaviour while using the roads."

A local road safety project manager added, "Inappropriate speed on Powys roads is one of the major causes of road traffic collisions.

"It is hoped that motorists will adhere to and respect the speed limits, which will greatly improve the road safety within the vicinity of our schools."

Mike Page from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the expert providers of young driver car insurance, heard about the initiative and commented, "I'm not sure I'd be too keen on getting told off for speeding by a load of kids, but I guess if it saves lives and helps people keep their cheap car insurance, it can't be such a bad thing."
