A top Premiership footballer is facing the possibility of losing his right to a cheap car insurance deal after police charged him with driving without motor insurance cover.
Blackburn Rovers' striker, Craig Bellamy, who also plays for Wales, has been summoned to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court to face the charge, but is thought to be planning to plead not guilty.
The 26-year-old was unable to appear at a previous hearing because he is currently honeymooning with his new bride in an undisclosed exotic location. The star married his sweetheart Claire Jansen, the mother of his two children, in a traditional ceremony at a Cardiff church last Saturday.
A trial date has been fixed for July, and if Bellamy is found guilty he is likely to face a heavy fine and the loss of his right to a cheap car insurance deal.
A spokesman from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, commented, "It doesn't matter if you're a top footballer or a poor student, anyone found to be driving without motor insurance can expect to be punished heavily by the courts.
"There are plenty of cheap car insurance deals out there so there really is no excuse."
