Toy-riding teen banned from driving

young driver car insurance A drunken teenager who zig-zagged down the road on a child's yellow electric buggy has been banned from driving for 16 months.

Anthony Ware only managed to drive a few yards on the undersized plastic toy, before it toppled over on top of him, leaving him lying in the road in a fit of inebriated giggles.

But eagle-eyed police were watching and pounced on the intoxicated 19-year-old, freeing him from underneath the vehicle and breathalysing him on the spot. Not surprisingly, Mr Ware, who 'smelled strongly of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet' proved to be over the drink-drive limit and was promptly arrested.

Appearing in court, Ware pleaded guilty to drink-driving and having no car insurance and, in addition to his ban, was fined £220.

The court heard that although the buggy is a child's toy, it can be officially classified as a vehicle because it has an electric motor. Its top speed is a dizzy 18mph and the model that Ware was joyriding on was a £400 Christmas present bought for one of his friend's children.

If the boozy teen ever decides to save up his pocket money and buy a real car, he may struggle to find a cheap car insurance quote now that he's a convicted drink-driver, but dealing with a specialist young driver car insurance firm might just be able to save him a few pennies.
