Lincs police seize cars without vehicle insurance

A crackdown on vehicles without insurance in Lincolnshire has resulted in 42 cars being seized by the police in December.

Legislation brought in this year means that if the owners do not claim their vehicles within 14 days, they can be crushed.

There are estimated to be over 1 million cars being driven without adequate vehicle insurance within the UK, and it has been found that 1 in 6 uninsured cars are also not roadworthy.

Inspector Les Parker of Lincolnshire police said: "The UK has one of the worst records in Western Europe for uninsured driving with an estimated one in every 20 cars on the road being driven without proper car insurance cover."

“My message to those people who are using vehicles without insurance is that "The police treat this offence as a very serious matter and that if you are caught then do not expect to be treated sympathetically.  You will be prosecuted, we will seize your vehicle and, if you want to get it back, you will have to pay all recovery and storage charges and you will have to have obtained insurance.”
