Warning to all young drivers with Ford Fiestas

If you drive a Ford Fiesta then your young driver car insurance rates could be heading for a rise.

Data has revealed that a nine-year-old Ford Fiesta 1.3 Encore in blue, registered in Birmingham is the most frequently written off car in Britain.

A survey running from August 2005 to April 2006 by Market Value Manager, a total claim settlement system developed by CAP Motor Research, has shown an intriguing insight into the most popular cars in the UK and those that accumulate the most payouts by motor insurance providers. The make, model, colour and postcode were all taken into account.

The Ford Escort with 6% and Ford Mondeo with 5% were also among those cars that are more likely to be written-off, and silver cars were seen to be hanging on as one of the safest colours of car to drive. The quantity of write-offs was distributed across the UK but behind Birmingham, Peterborough and Glasgow which accounted for the largest numbers.

Mike Page, a representative from Hoot Car Insurance Services, says: 'This data is very revealing but it does not necessarily mean that young driver car insurance companies like ourselves are going to put an end to cheap car insurance rates for those with blue Ford Fiestas.

'We attempt to offer low cost young driver car insurance to motorists aged 18-35 living in the UK, regardless of their car colour.'
