A 20-year-old serial motoring offender who previously nearly killed a lollipop lady and left a young boy paralysed from the waist down has once again escaped jail after his latest misdemeanour.
Sajid Hussain, from Newbold in Lancashire, appeared in court after he fled from police and crashed after being spotted driving a VW Golf while banned and without motor insurance. The bench at Rochdale Magistrates' Court gave him a four-month suspended sentence, banned him from the road for a further three years and ordered him to complete 18 months of community service.
Despite escaping a jail term, Hussain will struggle to find a cheap car insurance deal when his ban is completed, and will be forced to approach a young driver car insurance specialist in order to find an affordable quote.
At the age of just 16, Hussain was uninsured and unlicensed when he mowed down Daniel Hennessy, fleeing the scene and leaving the young boy needing a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He was given a two-month ban.
Only 12 months later he ploughed into lollipop lady Audrey Chadwick, causing the 67-year-old a range of serious injuries including a broken cheekbone, smashed pelvis, fractured forearm and a shattered jaw. This time the courts came down hard on the dangerous youngster, jailing him for 18 months.
Daniel Hennessy's grandfather blasted the latest sentence, saying, "The court has given Hussain a licence to kill.
"He has caused three accidents already and is only 20. What will he do next? It is unbelievable that he can walk away from court."
A spokesperson from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, commented, "This is exactly the type of driver that people don't want on the roads, and when his ban is finally completed, cheap car insurance is definitely going to be hard for him to find."
