One West Country teenager definitely won't have a problem getting a cheap car insurance deal from a specialist young driver car insurance firm after being named North Devon's best young driver.
Christopher Skinner came out victorious, winning the inaugural driving skills competition organised jointly by Barnstaple & North Devon Advanced Motorists Group and North Devon Rotary Clubs.
The innovative contest was run in response to the high numbers of under-25s involved in car accidents in the area, and it is hoped that the experiences gained may help to save lives on the road in the future.
Youngsters aged between 17 and 25 from across the region took part in the competition, initially completing an assessment drive under the watchful eye of professional advanced motoring instructors, before the best were selected to proceed to a skidpan session at Essex's Devon Driving Centre.
With the skidpan completed, the 15 finalists were then tested on their knowledge of driving theory, before they got back behind the wheel for practical and manoeuvrability exams.
After being declared the winner, Christopher was presented with a trophy and received £500 towards a year's motor insurance cover.
