We all know that we could do more to help the environment, but how many of us actually play our part? As the generation whose children are going to have to live in hugely polluted world, we're the ones that can really make a difference.
And we can start doing our bit by thinking about the cars we drive.
With many of us not too well-off in the finance department, and with young driver car insurance often being kinda pricey, a cheap banged-out old wreck that pumps out black smoke and drinks petrol is often our only option.
But car manufacturers are beginning to realise that some motorists want cars that are a little more environmentally-friendly and so are making efforts, as always, to cater to the market. The press are jumping on the bandwagon too, with the result being a prestigious new award for World Green Car of the Year.
A jury of 46 international motoring journalists were invited to pick their winner, and this year's champ has been named as the Honda Civic Hybrid.
Hugely efficient, it's the cheapest hybrid available in Britain and also has a motor insurance rating of seven, which happens to be two groups lower than the equivalent petrol-engined car. It emits fewer carbon emissions than most cars on the road, yet it can still achieve a top speed of 115mph and can do 0-60 in 12.1 seconds. On top of all that, the Civic Hybrid receives a useful 100% discount from London's nasty congestion charge.
A spokesman from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, said, "Environmentally-friendly cars are definitely the way ahead, and Honda's offering seems like a real step in the right direction."
