BSM driving schools have drawn attention to the concerns of young drivers about their confidence on the roads. With weather conditions predicted to be treacherous this Christmas 35% of 18 to 29 year olds have admitted that they wouldn’t know how to control their car in a skid and 30% are unsure about their general driving abilities in bad weather.
Many parents are also concerned about their children taking to the roads in bad weather. 22% have made their kids change their travel plans and have offered to pay taxi fare to discourage them from driving in bad weather.
New drivers and young drivers are the group most likely to be involved in a car accident, which is why car insurance for young people can be quite expensive. If a driver is inexperienced and suddenly faced with heavy Christmas traffic and bad weather then they are more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident.
There is also the likelihood that poor weather can cause your car to break down. In addition to the essentials like car insurance a young driver should consider investing in breakdown cover, so they won’t be left by the roadside in snowy weather.
