A teenage driver who crashed a stolen car had drunk seven bottles of cider before getting behind the wheel.
Carl Porter of Wokingham shouldn't have to worry about the costly expense of young driver car insurance after being given a four year driving ban at Carlisle Crown Court on Friday.
Police spotted the 18-year-old after noticing that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was driving the Ford Fiesta erratically on 2nd July.
After police officers switched on their blue lights, Porter slammed down the accelerator and sped through a housing estate at 70mph before crashing into a gate post at the end of the ten mile chase.
Police recorded him referring to the stolen car by saying, "I've nicked it from Moss Bay Road."
Porter was found to be nearly twice over the legal drink-drive limit after just recently being banned for drink-driving a few weeks before.
Judge Paul Batty QC told Porter, "You should consider yourself very lucky that you are not being sentenced for more grave matters involving the death of another motorist."
Porter admitted to driving without vehicle insurance or a licence and one offence of drink-driving. He was given a four year driving ban and sentenced to 30 months in youth custody.
A spokesperson for Hoot Car Insurance Services, the expert motor insurance provider said, "For young drivers, car insurance can be very expensive. By the time Mr Porters ban is lifted, he could still face paying expensive premiums and will have to shop around to get a cheap car insurance quote."
