Young driver fined after soaking policewoman
A 25-year-old man will find his young driver car insurance premium considerably higher in future after magistrates saddled him with five penalty points for splashing a police officer.
Chris Pearson was driving his 20-tonne truck along a country lane near Carlisle when he approached a flooded area of road with over two feet of water. Although only travelling at 30mph, Mr Pearson failed to slow down and roared through the giant puddle.
A policewoman was at the scene helping stranded motorists, and the truck caused a huge wave of water that drenched her, soaking her uniform and leaving her hair wet and bedraggled. Not best pleased, she stopped the lorry and accused Mr Pearson of soaking her on purpose and then laughing about it.
The trucker told reporters, "She told me I was getting a fine and I was totally shocked. I admitted I was guilty because I did go through the puddle but there's no way I'd laugh about it."
The police officer got the last laugh, however, and Mr Pearson received a £150 fine in addition to the penalty points, meaning that his cheap young driver car insurance will undoubtedly suffer.
