Survey dispels young driver drink-driving myth

It is often young drivers who are blamed for Britain's drink-driving problems, but a new survey by a motor insurance firm has found that almost half of all motorists over the age of 25 regularly get behind the week when over the limit.

Contrary to popular belief, a large number of young drivers are actually opposed to drink-driving and 47% say they never touch a drop before getting in the car. In addition, Direct Line Car Insurance found that 73% of the youngsters they surveyed believe that even the smallest amount of alcohol can affect driving ability.

A spokesman for the motor insurance company said, "We are pleased to see many young motorists view drink-driving as socially unacceptable but we'd like to see older drivers setting a better example."

Mike Page from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance experts, commented on the findings, saying, "There's no excuse for drink-driving and older drivers really should know better.

"Not only can it cost lives, but anyone found guilty of being over the limit will get a ban and lose their right to a cheap car insurance deal."
