Youngsters reveal drug-driver threat

A survey recently undertaken by top London radio station Kiss 100FM has revealed that 40% of young drivers in the capital have got behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.

Of that 40%, almost two thirds admitted that they felt their driving had been impaired as a result of their drug-taking, whilst a frightening one in five confessed that their abilities and reactions had become "very impaired".

In addition to risking their right to cheap young driver car insurance by driving while under the influence of drugs, these Londoners are also threatening the lives of other road users. Various drugs have different effects, but all are liable to impinge on concentration, affect reaction times and create a sense of disorientation, none of which contribute to a safe driving environment.

The survey involved 2,000 youngsters from all across the capital and was used by the radio station to launch an awareness campaign, backed by the Metropolitan Police, to illustrate the risks of drug-driving.

A spokeswoman from Hoot Car Insurance Services, expert providers of young driver car insurance, said, "Anybody who gets in the car after taking drugs risks the life of themselves and other road users, as well as the chance of getting a cheap car insurance deal."
