Thames Valley ambulance driver gets points on his license after delivering organs

An ambulance driver in the Thames Valley region has received three penalty points on his driver’s license and a £30 fine after he was caught doing 36mph in a 30mph zone. Lee Schramm was extremely angry when he discovered that he would be issued penalty points from the police because he was delivering a liver and a kidney to Churchill Hospital in Oxford. Schramm had just an hour and a half to deliver the organs and had to cover a distance of 81 miles in that time. Delivering organs is extremely time sensitive and many donor organ recipients have waited many months or years to get the organs that they need.

The emergency lights on Schramm’s ambulance were activated but the police are unwilling to withdraw the speeding fine and points.

If you have points on your driving license it means that your car insurance rate can be significantly increased. Car insurance companies see drivers with penalty points for speeding as a greater insurance risk and therefore charge more. People caught speeding may not be able to secure a cheap car insurance quote.
