Quit speeding or you’ll miss out on cheap
young driver car insurance
Attention all petrol heads and speed hungry young drivers, car insurance could cost you a lot more than you bargained for.
Recent research indicates that those drivers who indulge in speeding could face far greater penalties. Under the government’s proposed Road Safety Bill, gaining just one speeding offence could raise your car insurance rate by more than £475 every year.
Currently, motorists receive three points on their driving licence after breaking the speed limit however this is set to double. Drivers are set to gain a hefty six points for driving at 45mph in a 30mph zone.
While gaining three points on your licence is ill-advised it does not have a substantial effect on your motor insurance rate. However, the more serious the motoring offence, the greater the amount of penalty points you receive. Therefore, doubling the amount of points received for speeding will mean that car insurance companies may regard you a higher risk on the roads and up your premium accordingly.
Also, car insurance companies will be forced to make a sizable premium increase to cover the risk of having your licence revoked. Any person that attains 12 or more penalty points in a period of three years is liable to be disqualified from driving. Under the new Road Safety Bill, it looks as though attaining two speeding offences could mean hopping out of the driver’s seat for a while.
Such endorsements will remain on a licence for four years from the date of the conviction and you are obliged to declare points to insurers for five years. This suggests that even when you recover your licence, some car insurance companies may see you as an increased risk and again up your premiums.
Mike Page from Hoot Car Insurance Services, the young driver car insurance specialists, warns about the consequences of speeding: ‘We strongly advise that Britain’s young motorists stay within the speed limit, when speeding drivers have less control over their vehicle. Speed limits are put in place for good reason, to encourage sensible driving and decrease the likelihood of serious accidents.
We offer those aged 18-35 the best car insurance rates available but if you gain six points on your licence each time you are caught speeding you will leave us with no choice but to raise your premium. By slowing down you can save yourself a lot of hassle, extra expense and make sure your young driver car insurance stays low cost.’
We know that many of you are tempted to put your foot down at 5.30pm on a Friday as you can’t wait for the weekend to begin and we are well aware that more and more young drivers are hurrying along British roads on a daily basis, but consider yourselves warned.
Not only could you cause a serious accident, injuring or killing yourself and others, you could also face a monetary fine, points to your licence and a significant increase in you young driver car insurance premium.
