"Why I love my BMW"
Most BMW drivers would say that their cars' pitch-perfect handling is more than enough to justify the expense of owning one - let alone the unique styling, powerful engines and unrivalled luxury that go with it. Here, three satisfied customers tell us why BMW really is the 'ultimate driving machine'.
Neil Scott, BMW 523i
Neil Scott, 30, is an IT consultant based in South Wales. His high annual mileage and the need to create a smart, professional image made BMW an easy choice when it came to buying a new car.
"I spend at least as much time travelling to and from clients' premises as I do actual working, so it's very important to me to have a good driver's car. I've been in the IT business for 5 years now and in that time I pretty much wore out the one I started with, which was a Citroen Xantia, and had to replace it with the BMW. "Obviously it cost a lot more money, but the difference in the drive is just superb. I've had it a little over six months and it is still every bit as enjoyable to drive as on the day I bought it. When you're on the motorway it's so smooth and powerful, and on the back roads it's really surefooted and tight through the corners. Everything just feels superbly put together, from the gearbox to the steering to even the way the seat moves back and forward. Compared to other cars it's like a Rolex, everything just more precisely engineered. "Then there's the impression it makes on clients when you pull up outside. If someone comes to meet me they're going to judge me a little based on the car I drive, and the BMW makes a very good impression. I keep it clean, no crisp packets on the dashboard, so it looks as smart on the inside as on the outside. Everyone asks about the car. Also it shows them I'm doing well, which is important in this line of work. "The other great thing about the car is the iDrive system. BMW gets a lot of bad press for it because people writing the reviews don't take the time to properly learn the system, but I find it really intuitive. Everything is grouped rationally and within the first few days of using it you can navigate to the most common commands without having to look at the screen. It beats groping about for the right button in most other cars by a mile." Sara Deegan, BMW 320iT
36-year-old Sara lives and works in Penrith, Cumbria, as a disability support worker. Her large family and busy schedule meant she needed a spacious and reliable workhorse to get about in, and a secondhand 3 Series estate fitted the bill perfectly.
"My father had always had a knack for finding secondhand bargains in the paper, but when he recommended a BMW I was a little surprised. Luxury cars have never really been in my price range, but it turns out that if you add a couple of careful owners the price starts to get a lot more reasonable. Plus, he explained, they're extremely reliable - which is definitely a requirement for me. "In the event we bought the car. Dad talked the guy down to what was a very reasonable price, considering it was in such good shape and came with all the extras I wanted, even a dog guard. Now we can put the dog in the back without frightening my daughters' friends on the way to school! Plus it has air conditioning, which I love. "Everyone at work teases me for owning a BMW, but secretly I'm sure they're all jealous. I just hope Dad can find me another one when the wheels fall off!" Andrew Twardowski, BMW 540i
Andy Twardowski is a recruitment consultant from Gillingham in Kent. He bought a BMW on credit at the age of 25 - using part of his student loan as a deposit.
"I couldn't really afford this car when I bought it in 2004, but having seen what BMW did to the 7 Series a couple of years before that I knew I couldn't wait for a model change. In styling terms the new cars just haven't got the class of the previous generation models. My 540i must have been one of the last proper 5 Series left on sale in the country when I bought it - there were actually some 'Bangled' ones already on the dealership forecourt with it when I went to pick it up.
"The car itself is an absolute dream to drive, of course, and every bit as satisfying as it was three years ago. I haven't got a scratch on it. I'd say the engine was perfectly worn in now, and it purrs along at 70mph on the motorway with the kind of poise and refinement you just don't get from a Ford or a Renault. Apart from regular dealer servicing, I've never needed to have it looked at." "I'm really happy with it and plan on keeping this car for a long time, at least until I've finished paying for it. Maybe one day I'll be taking it to motor shows and people will say: "Look, that's what a real BMW looks like." I hope so." The smart choice for BMW insurance
If you're another satisfied BMW customer, it seems a shame to let potentially steep car insurance premiums spoil the mood. To that end, Hoot Car Insurance Services has created a kind of policy that could save you money just because of the brand of car you drive.
Our BMW car insurance means you could be getting all the benefits Hoot has to offer (like breakdown assistance, legal expenses insurance and a host of others), but at an even cheaper rate than our regular cover. In fact, BMW owners who make the switch could save as much as 30 percent on their motor insurance premiums.
