No more cheap car insurance quotes for London speeders who exploited loophole

In London, new speed cameras are putting a stop to those criminals still enjoying cheap car insurance quotes after claiming they were not at the wheel of speeding cars.

Conventional cameras photograph the rear of a speeding vehicle, making it difficult to recognise the occupants - and in the past, a few 'good' drivers have been persuaded to cover for bad ones if it means saving a drivers licence or a cheap motor insurance policy.

But the days when Cockney motorists could exploit this kind of loophole are numbered, thanks to a new breed of forward-facing cameras currently on trial in the city.

The digital cameras - two of which are currently undergoing live trials on London streets - work in sync with existing equipment. They capture images of speeders' windscreens at a sufficiently high resolution for police to identify the occupants, eliminating the potential for innocent drivers to protect the cheap car insurance quotes of guilty ones.

"We are determined to close the legal loopholes [and] catch the rogue drivers who put others at risk," said London road safety ambassador Jenny Jones.

1.Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we will supply a replacement car on a credit hire basis. This means the charges for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who was responsible for the accident. This service may not be available where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or wherethe driver is unknown or uninsured.

2.If you have comprehensive insurance, a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information.

3.The repairing garage may be able to provide a replacement car. This is subject to availability.
