Ex-cop preps footballer young drivers for 'life in the fast lane'
A former policeman from Lancashire has been drafted in at Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers to try and talk some sense into the teams' youth players before fame, the Premiership and a seven-figure salary go to their heads. High-flying football players seem to crash their cars or get arrested in them (running up huge young driver car insurance premiums) more often than other celebrities, and, according to Adrian Shurmer, 64, that's because regular driving instructors seem patronising to their gifted minds. "A normal instructor will tell you to drive with two hands on the wheel and you will probably resent them," he said. "These lads are about to start living life in the fast lane, so they need to know how to drive properly there too." "Does that mean it's okay to drive in the fast lane with less than two hands on the wheel?" asked Mike Page, spokesman for the young driver car insurance professionals at Hoot, when he read about the story. "I know I'm just a humble motor insurance expert," he added, "but that doesn't seem quite right to me."
