FSA brands cheap car insurance ads 'misleading'

Cover your eyes and ears! It turns out all those TV and radio commercials for cheap car insurance are more than just annoying - they're downright misleading.

A recently published report from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) found that over half the ads for motor insurance services made 'unclear or misleading savings claims', according to news agency Reuters.

The FSA was concerned specifically by adverts which made it seem as though anyone who applies for a car insurance quote is eligible for so-called 'premium savings', while in reality only a small percentage of applicants see any benefit.

The Authority warned those motor insurance companies who are responsible for the confusing commercials to withdraw them or face further regulatory action - but for the moment at least it's worth taking these cheap car insurance claims with a pinch of salt.
