Cheap car insurance quotes a minor loss next to bankruptcy
Forget losing out on cheap car insurance quotes if you're caught driving without valid motor insurance - the folks at the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) have got something far more unpleasant in store for you. While the MIB is primarily concerned with supporting the victims of accidents involving uninsured drivers, it also takes the aforementioned drivers to court and sues them for compensation. And, if they can't pay up, it presses for bankruptcy. In two landmark cases last year, the MIB successfully bankrupted people who'd crashed whilst driving with no motor insurance cover. The penniless defendants were Sheffield man Stephen Harrison, who couldn't afford the £15,000 he had been ordered to pay, and Lino K Kokuto from Manchester, who owed £7,000. "The recent bankruptcy orders highlight our determination to pursue uninsured drivers and force them to pay for the consequences of their recklessness," said MIB spokesman Michael Williams.
Hoot spokesman Mike Page took his mind off cheap car insurance quotes for a minute to comment on this story.
"It's important that an organisation like the MIB is looking out for the victims of uninsured drivers," he said, "but the money it takes to do so puts a huge financial burden on all us car insurance companies.
"It's great to hear the MIB is taking steps to recoup the cost of compensation from the guilty drivers rather than those of us who actually pay our car insurance premiums."
