Ohio teens enjoy cheap young driver car insurance

The price of young driver car insurance in Columbus, Ohio is dropping thanks to new state laws which restrict teenage driving.

Several car insurance companies have lowered their prices since the legislation came into effect on 6 April 2007, limiting the night time hours teens can drive and the number of passengers they can carry.

Within a month, many firms had dropped the price of young driver car insurance by a figure in the region of 5-10 percent, leading to an appreciable saving for Ohio motorists.

"Insurance companies are starting to see lower losses from teen drivers, and they are turning around and passing those savings onto customers," said a spokesperson for the Ohio Insurance Institute.

However, some car insurance companies are waiting for clearer signs of the new law's effectiveness before they revise their prices. Other states with young driver legislation report an average 23 percent drop in teenage road accidents since its introduction.
