Mean drivers still ignoring cheap online car insurance deals
Mean drivers who chose the risks of driving uninsured over the price of cheap online car insurance were responsible for 36,000 crashes in 2006, according the Motor Insurers' Bureau. The Bureau, which subsidises motor insurance claims for the victims of uninsured drivers, revealed that the 2006 crashes caused 180 deaths and 27,000 injuries, 360 of them serious. Despite the best efforts of police, the DfT and the DVLA, the number of uninsured drivers on UK roads continued to rise in 2006. Currently, one driver in 20 is reckoned to be driving without cheap car insurance. "It's a nightmare situation," said Mike Page, spokesman for the online car insurance specialists at Hoot Car Insurance Services. "Amazingly cheap car insurance is out there on the net if only these people would have a look," he added. "Why anyone would risk driving uninsured is beyond me."
