Most teenage learners are taken aback by the price of young driver car insurance, but Maria McCarthy, who started taking lessons when she was 17, can expect her first motor insurance quote to be surprisingly reasonable.
That's because Maria, 40, took a staggering 23 years to pass her driving test - making her a substantially lower risk in the eyes of most car insurance companies.
The Sidmouth, Devon resident, who needed over 250 lessons with 10 different instructors, claims roundabouts and corners were her sticking points.
"Nothing came easily to me," she said. "It was a mixture of nerves and lack of ability."
"What this woman lacks in aptitude, she certainly makes up for in tenacity," commented Hoot Car Insurance Services spokesman and young driver car insurance expert Mike Page.
