Bad news for convicted Scottish drink driver Ronan Campbell - his sentence has just doubled in severity.
Campbell, 22, was let off with a 12 month driving ban and a £60 fine after he got drunk at the wheel and wound up totalling a boat, a trailer and three other vehicles last April.
Although the conviction destroyed his chances of getting a cheap young driver car insurance quote, the Crown Prosecution Service felt his sentence was too lenient and took Campbell back to court.
After appealing against him successfully, it beefed-up the sentence with a further £240 in fines and added an extra 12 months to his driving ban. Campbell, who would otherwise have been free to drive legally in a few months, must now wait until April 2008 for the opportunity.
"I admit the new sentence seems more appropriate," said Mike Page, one of the young driver car insurance experts at Hoot Car insurance Services, "although I'm sure Campbell doesn't see it like that.
"It's lucky the motor insurance firms aren't so indecisive," he added.
