Preston striker caught without young driver car insurancePreston North End's star striker is in trouble with the police after he was caught at the wheel of a teammate's car without young driver car insurance. 21-year-old Dave Nugent was stopped by officers on the day he scored one of three winning goals against Championship rivals Southampton. Along with the rest of the squad, Nugent had gone out to celebrate the victory in a city nightclub. He and fellow Preston player Sean St Ledger left the club together and elected to drive home in St Ledger's Land Rover Discovery. As the centre-half had had a few drinks, it was left to sober striker Nugent to do the driving. However capable a driver he was, however, nothing could escape the fact that Nugent was driving without young driver car insurance cover. He was pulled over shortly afterward and when police cottoned on, the Land Rover was towed away to be impounded. Now the striker is preparing to answer a police summons regarding the offence. He faces a fine and points on his licence if convicted. St Ledger's Discovery was just one of many vehicles seized by Preston police as part of 'Operation Deny', a crackdown on drivers who don't have valid motor insurance.
