Cheap car insurance due to stiff competition amongst the large car insurersCompetition keeping prices low in the car insurance market
It seems that car insurance premiums are being kept lower than expected because of aggressive competition within the sector between the large insurance companies. The predicted hikes in insurance premium expected to take effect from the end of 2006 throughout 2007 have not materialised. Some of the larger insurance companies had predicted that premiums would rise by up to 16% to counteract the inflationary costs of claims but data from the AA reveals that the average price for comprehensive car insurance may have increased by as little as only 6.0%.
A spokesperson from a leading UK internet car insurance provider said, "The key is to shop around to find the insurer that has products that best match your particular needs. By buying online and by simply shopping around savings of up to 33% can be made. Competition from the likes of LV (under their SwiftCover brand), Elephant and Admiral is certainly assisting the consumer to continue to find cheap car insurance."
The source also pointed out that add-ons can also make a huge difference to the overall cost of the policy. Charges for paying by instalments or paying extra for European cover can also radically increase the cost of car insurance.
