An Essex man has sacrificed cheap car insurance, drinks down the pub and even thoughts of fatherhood for the sake of his £47,000 Ford Escort.
The Ford - bought secondhand in 1991 for just £1,000 - has since been voted the best customised car in Britain.
It boasts six TV screens, 29 speakers, a DVD player and built-in Sony PlayStation. The original 1.7 litre engine has been souped-up with nitrous oxide. And when it's off the road, the car is kept safe and dry in a heated, carpeted garage.
"I'm lucky to have such an understanding wife," the 40-year-old plumber owner told the Sun newspaper. "We decided not to have children so we could enjoy the finer things in life."
He added: "I don't go down the pub spending money on beer. I do this instead."
And as for the 'cheap' car insurance deal? The man admitted he pays over £1,500 a year in motor insurance premiums - and for that much can only drive the car 3,000 miles.
