Residents lose fence as drink driver wrecks cheap car insuranceChester residents are claiming that a drink-driver caused £12,000 worth of damage when he crashed into the fencing that borders their properties. The 53-year-old, who was knocked unconscious at the wheel of his Jeep Wrangler, wrecked more than his chance of a cheap car insurance rate in the accident. Appearing at Chester Magistrates Court he admitted drink driving, but said he 'could not understand why he was over the limit', according to the Chester Chronicle. Magistrates fined him £350 and ordered him to pay £40 court costs, as well as imposing a 12 month driving ban. The issue of compensation for the damaged fencing was left for action in the civil courts. "The victims can be anything from some damaged fencing to a passer-by - but drink driving cases are always a nightmare," said Mike Page, spokesman for the cheap car insurance experts at Hoot. "Apart from all the fines and banning, you'd think the cost of motor insurance for convicted drink drivers would put people off," he added. "It's shocking what people are prepared to risk for the sake of an extra pint or glass of wine."
