Cheap car insurance ad holds up high streetShooting for the latest Norwich Union commercial brought traffic to a standstill in the Gloucestershire town of Moreton-in-Marsh. The cheap car insurance firm's film crew took over 200 yards of the High Street when they staged a dramatic road accident. The scene involves a badly-driven blue van colliding with a car door, which is knocked clean off its hinges. "We take the metal pins off the car door and put in wooden dowlings to make sure it falls off dramatically and really looks the part," said the crew's location manager. Other casualties include a nearby lamp post, stone trough and flower bed - all of which were installed moments before by the crew. "The ad's about idiot drivers," said the location manager. "We've already filmed at Batsford Estate, Swan Close in Moreton and at the Fire Service College where we had a motorway pile-up." It's thought the footage will become a montage of road accidents in the finished commercial, reminding viewers of the importance of a valid motor insurance policy. Interest in the cheap car insurance ad was such that local people lined the streets in the lead-up to filming, but for one police officer the 'accident' came as something of a surprise. "I thought 'what's happening now?' and went to see if everything was in order," she said. "Then I realised they were just filming."
