Teen driver tries to negotiate escalator in his car, fails

A 19-year-old from Florida escaped with his life but not his cheap car insurance after falling 20ft down a shopping mall escalator - in his car.

Soloman Kahin drove straight through plate glass doors and left a trail of retail debris in his wake on the second floor of Florida's Altamonte Mall before crashing through a perfume stand and flipping over the edge.

The mangled car landed on its roof on the floor below. Miraculously, Kahin himself was still alive - albeit barely so - and was cut free from the wreckage by the emergency services.

It's not yet known whether Kahin's young driver car insurance provider will be picking up the $100,000 bill for the damage he caused, nor whether Florida police will press criminal charges against him.

We can be pretty sure he won't see another cheap car insurance quote for a few years, though.

1.Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we will supply a replacement car on a credit hire basis. This means the charges for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who was responsible for the accident. This service may not be available where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or wherethe driver is unknown or uninsured.

2.If you have comprehensive insurance, a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information.

3.The repairing garage may be able to provide a replacement car. This is subject to availability.
