Wiltshire police seize 120 vehicles without cheap car insuranceA month-long crackdown in Wiltshire has resulted in the arrest of some 120 cheap car insurance dodgers. In May 2007, officers from the Road Policing Unit stopped and then impounded the offenders' vehicles, which they identified using data from the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB). "This was a significant operation," reported a police spokesman. "Non-insured drivers are six times more likely to drive a non-roadworthy vehicle, three times more likely to have been convicted of careless driving and ten time more likely to have been convicted of a drink driving offence," he said. "These figures clearly speak for themselves." "With affordably cheap car insurance policies now available on the internet, it's staggering how many people are still prepared to risk arrest by driving uninsured," said Mike Page, spokesman for the motor insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services.
