Child safety seats in insurance company plea

A leading UK supermarket is urging car insurance companies to be more focused on the safety of babies and children in car seats.

Tesco made the appeal to publicise its view that all child seats in vehicles that are involved in a road smash should be replaced with new ones.

It is calling for drivers looking for the best vehicle cover to buy policies only from motor insurers who recognise that young people's seats and boosters must be protected in accidents.

The supermarket giant believes the issue is important enough to generate media coverage by highlighting the issue publicly, perhaps bringing its weight to bear to encourage some positive change.

Tesco issued the call to car insurance companies as part of its support for Child Safety Week, organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust, which runs from June 23-29.
