UK drivers can look forward to more precise motor insurance quotes now trade regulator the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has increased the number of vehicle insurance groups from 20 to 50.
That means today's diverse range of car types, modifications and repair methods - along with a cornucopia of other risk-related details - can be more accurately recorded by your car insurance firm.
For example: the 30 extra groups give insurers the freedom to differentiate between model subsets, such as 'city' and 'sport' variants, where before they might have been lumped together.
The group rating system was last amended in 1992. According to the ABI, drivers should start to see the changes take effect on their motor insurance quotes by late 2007.
