Young drivers could have cheaper car insurance by just shopping around.
According to Sainsbury's bank over five million motorists obtain only one quote before buying car cover.
This is in spite of the fact that the average motorist could save up to 32 per cent a year on their premiums by shopping around.
Joanne Mallon, car insurance manager, Sainsbury's Bank said: "Spending a little time shopping around for your car insurance could save you hundreds of pounds a year in lower premiums.
"You don't even have to sacrifice the quality of cover as you can often increase this while reducing your premiums."
The reasons given for not shopping around ranged from 18 per cent who couldn't be bothered to 6 per cent who found it too stressful.
