People living in Edinburgh are more likely to benefit from low cost car insurance than those in Glasgow.
Scotland's capital is among the 10 cheapest cities in the UK offering low cost car insurance, with the average cost £514.
But Glasgow is the UK's third most expensive city, with motorists paying an average of £813. The cheapest places are Dundee and Aberdeen, where drivers pay an average of £438.
Across the country, the typical cost of insuring a car is now £573 - a drop of 2.2 per cent since the same time last year and a saving of £16.
The findings, by car insurance search site confused.com, reveal huge differences in average car insurance premiums across the UK.
The typical difference between the average price and the cheapest price for low cost car insurance is £152.
Confused.com managing director Kate Armstrong said costs are being kept down by supermarkets offering low cost car insurance.
She said: 'Rivalry among the supermarkets has contributed towards a continuing competitive market, encouraging all insurers to offer favourable premiums.
