Young driver car insurance may rise after DH report.
If you're looking for a cheaper quote for your young driver car insurance, this week's Department of Health announcement from the UK Government's Chief Medical Officer may come as bad news.
This is because the report draws attention to a risk among young drivers being greater than in those who are older - in this case, alcohol. Figures are quoted that suggest the risk of an alcohol-related car crash is raised by 250% more for a younger driver than an older one. He therefore called for a zero alcohol limit for drivers under 20.
Whether or not this is accepted, a greater perceived risk may have the effect of increasing any quote that a driver from that demographic will be offered.
The same report drew attention to the fact that car accidents involving teenagers are not becoming less common. This means that, if risks are not being reduced, cheap car insurance companies may find it impossible to reduce their premiums.
Telemetric schemes that monitor drivers and reward them with lower motor insurance quotes for driving safely are one response to this, but not every young driver wants to be monitored by their cover company.
However, as for any motorist, young driver car insurance is likely to fall as a proven history of safe driving builds up. A Hoot spokesperson added, "Each driver's individual, and we'll tailor our motor insurance quote accordingly; after all, a safe history has to count against general statistics."
