Look beyond the 'bottom line' for cheap car insurance, warns CFS

What looks like a cheap car insurance deal on paper shouldn't be the be-all and end-all for British motorists, according to Co-operative Financial Services (CFS).

According to a spokesman for the society, which provides high street and internet banking services as well as home and motor insurance, too many of us choose insurance based solely on the 'bottom line'.

Instead, he urged, consumers should stop to consider how costs contained in the small print, such as legal expenses or foreign use cover, will affect the overall price of apparently cheap car insurance.

"Look at the whole package of what you're getting in terms of service proposition and the quality of the claims service that you may or may not have to use," the CFS spokesman said. "Don't just look at the bottom line in terms of price."
