Fraudsters pose risk to cheap car insurance customers

A blind man who has never had a driving licence or needed to buy cheap car insurance has been accused of a speeding offence that took place while he was in Pakistan.

The 38-year-old man was shocked when he received a letter from West Yorkshire Police stating that he had committed a driving offence, especially as he had been living abroad for the past three years.

As a well-known figure in the community and president of a school for the blind in Mirpur, Pakistan, the man who has never needed the use of motor insurance believes that somebody must have used his details when stopped by police.

He added: "I want to know the person who has used my name, maybe they are abusing my identity.

"When I was first sent the letter telling me about this driving offence, my secretary had to read it to me. I just couldn't believe it, but actually I was also full of anger as I am someone who people respect in the community."

The accused man believes that identity fraud could be a real problem in the UK and that similar incidents could pose a risk to cheap car insurance customers.
