Young drivers take BTEC for insurance saving

The AA is backing a new kind of driving course that promises safer motoring and cheaper car insurance for young drivers.

Drive iQ PRO combines regular taught lessons and enhanced training, delivered online and on-the-road, with successful students gaining both a test pass and a BTEC driving qualification.

The AA Driving School has been signed up as Drive iQ's 'preferred national partner' for the in-car portion of its five-unit training programme.

"A test pass in itself does not guarantee a safe attitude behind the wheel," said an AA spokesman, in praise of Drive iQ's more comprehensive approach.

"It's this potentially fatal gap that we now aim to help young drivers to bridge."

Drive iQ students pay an enrolment fee of £150 on top of the cost of their lessons - but benefit from significantly cheaper car insurance when they earn their licences.

Industry expectations are high, and participating insurers are offering fixed quotes on insurance for young drivers taking part in the programme - some up to six months before taking the test.
